Sunless tanning lotions
Tanning sprays are considered one of the best methods of obtaining a tan, but if you don't like the idea of spraying your body with tanning solution, there are a plethora of sunless tanning lotions on the market for you to consider. The reason tanning sprays are considered better than sunless tanning lotions has to do with the quality of tan. When you use a spray the tanning solution is applied more evenly to the skin. When they first arrived on the market, sunless tanning lotions produced an orange color rather than the desired golden brown and lasted only temporarily. Nowadays, manufacturers of sunless tanning lotions use chemicals in their products that produce tans that are more health conscious, more natural, and that last longer than a few days.
Tanning lotions are very similar to tanning sprays. Their main commonality is the active ingredient in them that causes your skin to tan: dihydroxyacetone (DHA). Basically, DHA reacts with your skin's rejuvenation process. What is imperative on your end is that you slough off any dead skin before you actually apply the tanning lotion. You can accomplish this by taking a basic shower or bath or by using an exfoliating product. There are some sunless tanning lotions that come in a kit that includes a product for you to use to exfoliate the skin. Exfoliation is important because it restarts your skin's renewal process, which is the time you want to add tanning lotion. After you exfoliate your skin and before you apply the tanning lotion, you should moisturize your skin. This helps to prevent your skin from becoming excessively dry and cracking.
When you apply the tanning lotion, be sure to avoid you face, unless you are using tanning lotion that you can apply to your face. When you have finished applying the lotion, give it a few minutes to dry before putting on clothes. Then, wash and dry your hands completely. If you apply the tanning lotion in the evening, you can apply more lotion when you wake up in the morning.
